Opening new perspectives
───
Sometimes the greatest gift isn’t being given the answers. It’s meeting someone who helps you find your own. I almost gave up on therapy because I couldn’t find a space where I truly felt understood. Then I found The Bulb Booth and met Joe.
With kindness, curiosity and gentle guidance he has a way of opening new perspectives, helping you better understand yourself and find the confidence to navigate your own path.
Somehow therapy never feels like a therapy session. It feels like sitting with someone who truly sees me, really listens, gently challenges me and helps me find clarity when life can feel overwhelming. I’ve come to realise that therapy isn’t about someone fixing your past. It’s about building the confidence and self-awareness to meet your present and your future with greater clarity and compassion.
I’m so grateful to have found a place where I can pause, breathe, make sense of things and slowly find my way again.
Sessions feel like a conversation
───
Joe is without a doubt the best therapist I have ever known. Right from the start, I found him really easy to talk to and he has helped me so much.
Our sessions feel like a conversation rather than me just having to talk all the time. And sometimes Joe has suggested little exercises for me to try from Inside The Booth, which have been really beneficial too.
I was a little hesitant about starting therapy, but I am so glad I did. I would happily recommend Joe to anyone.
Rich understanding
───
Working with Joe is extremely rewarding and supportive. His wide knowledge base and readiness to meet me where I am, means that each session is relevant, current and builds on the work we have done.
Joe has a real ability to connect gently with you and to get to the heart of the matter, and always with respect, compassion and understanding. Choices and direction are always mine, and Joe guides me gently and allows plenty of space for integration.
I especially appreciate his rich understanding of different modalities and the way he weaves these seamlessly into a session to show me all the options, allowing me to choose what lands best at any time.
A trusting space
───
Joe is a fantastic counsellor and an all-round wonderful human being.
He cares deeply about his clients, bringing a wealth of personal and professional experience to draw on. Joe creates a trusting space where you know he is both there for you, and with you; in wisdom, gentleness and empathy, as you explore whatever it is you bring.
I would not hesitate to recommend his services.
Willingness to 'get in there with you'
───
I've been working with Joe in long-term counselling, as I'm training to be a counsellor myself and my course requires me to undertake many hours of personal therapy.
He has been extremely helpful, not only from a personal therapeutic perspective, but also from a professional one.
Joe has helped me to gain clarity on several long-standing personal issues, especially one when he asked a single thoughtful question that enabled me to release the deep guilt and shame that I had been holding on to for nearly 50 years. It was amazing to feel it physically draining from my body.
His use of somatic, visualisation and parts techniques, has been inspirational. I feel both supported in my personal therapeutic work, while educated and inspired professionally by his approach. I particularly appreciate Joe's willingness to 'get in there with you' and be open, honest and vulnerable, while remaining professional and supportive. That is indeed a rare gift in a therapist.
Positivity and new perspectives
───
I couldn’t recommend Joe and The Bulb Booth any higher.
He is an incredible person first and foremost, and a truly beautiful soul who will undoubtedly bring positivity and new perspectives to your life. It’s like having a friend you didn’t know in your corner, and within the first couple of sessions, he does everything right to make you comfortable and feel like you’ve known each other for years.
The insight and knowledge he shares with you is remarkable and so so helpful. And The Bulb Booth has so many fantastic resources for you to engage with at any time.
If you’re considering therapy but aren’t quite sure, like I was for so long, rest assured that there’s no better person to chose to take that leap with than Joe. I absolutely love having the opportunity to chat with him about any and everything, to hear his outlook and advice, with absolutely zero judgement ever attached. He’s helped me so much and will help you too.
Somewhere I hadn't seen
───
Joe is perspicacious; he has a sharp mind, keen understanding, and the ability to notice or judge things very clearly. He gives me space, lets me find my own way, but comes in at the right moment with a suggestion or a breadcrumb that leads me somewhere I hadn't seen myself. A bit like a good manager; quietly doing more than is seen from the outside.
What's shifted most since beginning this experience has been my relationships. Still very much in progress. Procrastination has eased too. Less force, more knowing when to just act and when to be gentle with myself. And I've recently been examining family dynamics, noticing them play out differently in real life. Not just understood in theory, but shifting how I actually respond in the moment.
The work you do with Joe compounds. Small shifts in how you relate to yourself, then start to ripple outward into how you relate to everyone else.
A profound impact
───
Before starting sessions with Joe, I was viewing certain parts of myself very negatively.
Joe helped me to delve into these parts and learn their true value. How aspects of them that scared and dragged me down, were actually trying to protect me and were well intentioned at their core. With this understanding, we could then explore how to work with them collaboratively and compassionately.
It has had a profound impact on my professional and personal life.
To travel on a therapeutic journey
───
If you have found yourself reading this because you are contemplating entering The Bulb Booth and therapeutic work with Joe, I would urge you to stay. You have very likely found yourself in the right place.
My own reasons for seeking support were not as a result of one cataclysmic incident or episode. Just a feeling that in the complexity of life I had run out of ways to process the difficult stuff. I was nervous about it and had that terrible generational guilt, that I might be wasting someone's time and money that could or should be going towards other things and people. I think it maybe felt indulgent and somehow a little bit vain that I felt the need to talk to someone about me and my life.
But in the sea of therapists, counsellors, practitioners who called themselves a whole variety of things, something drew me to Joe. And how I thank myself every day I listened to that voice in my head taking me to this wonderful human.
Writing that sentence feels strange now. Like looking back on a past version of myself. My work with Joe has been transformative. It feels as if I have come home to myself. I have realised that I had all the skills all along, I just didn't really know how to deploy them, never mind in a way that was right for me.
Joe is compassionate and empathic. Right from the get go I felt as if my vulnerabilities were being held and gently unpicked with instinctive awareness of their fragility. There were laser sharp questions [sometimes searching and tricky] and optional homework which could feel initially challenging removed from the bubble of safety in our 1:1 interactions. I didn't ever, ever feel that I was subject to a process that was predetermined. I felt that my work with Joe was responsive entirely to me and my level of engagement with our work, yet grounded in tried and tested experience, knowledge and so very much wisdom.
It has been life changing. I finally have compassion towards myself, and a raft of strategies that I understand will work for me. It's a new relationship with myself that evolves and changes, but which I now understand. I feel empowered, calmer, happier, and have far more healthy relationships with those around me.
I can think of no finer vessel in which to travel on a therapeutic journey than The Bulb Booth, with Joe as your skipper. He is an utmost professional, but the kind of human everyone should come across at least once in their lives.
At your own pace
───
If you think you need counselling, then you probably do. The Bulb Booth is a safe place to explore what is going wrong for you right now, and how to understand and better manage it.
You will be guided by Joe to explore issues at your own pace, with supporting material to help you reflect on your discussions between sessions.
You deserve to feel better.
Creativity into the room
───
Working with Joe doesn't feel like therapy so much as sitting with an old friend who truly cares.
He brings creativity into the room, at times encouraging me to draw or write what I can't quite say, weaving in wisdom from places like Lao Tzu, alongside a clear and grounded framework.
But what matters most is that he never tries to squeeze something out of me or uncover some hidden truth. He just lets me explore whatever I'm carrying, and gently points toward the things I haven't yet seen myself.
Sometimes therapy can feel like a clinical process, but for me this is like being walked alongside by someone who is genuinely in my corner.
